Pinterest is now the 4th biggest traffic driver to websites on the internet, according to new data released by shareaholic. Over the last few months Pinterest has beaten Twitter, Bing and now Yahoo! to take it to the fourth spot, only sitting behind Google, Facebook and direct with respects to amount of traffic driven to other websites.

Looking at the site data for our own website icrossing.co.uk, Pinterest has only been the 29th biggest traffic driver this year. Additionally taking a look at analytics data for a small sample of our clients Pinterest did not feature as a top 10 referrer for any of them and was outside the top 50 for a lot of them suggesting that the sharesholic data is limited to a specific subset of sites with users that are potentially more socially engaged. However this data does highlight the importance of understanding and embracing new social sharing technologies especially if you work in a sector that has a natural propensity for social sharing such as Fashion.

Harry Web traffic is the most important part of any online business, but your site must look and feel the part in order to be top. Keywords and usability play quite highly. Its no good having the volume of traffic if you simply are not selling your products.Feb 5, 2013 06:35 am
