Google Preview in Paid Search…

Feb. 17, 2011 | by Sam Fenton-Elstone

Towards the end of 2010 all SEO’s were talking about Google Preview and Instant Search. Now it’s the turn of PPC’ers to throw their opinions into the ring.

When searching on logged into Google and searching on I have started to see preview now being made available to paid Ads. See below:

So what does this mean for paid search?

Creative design of the page will have an impact on CTR

  • Deep linking will become even more important. Advertisers with landing pages relevant to the search term will benefit
  • Trust in PPC Ads will increase for high quality sites
  • Sites designed in Flash will suffer. Take a look at the example below:

This makes the top three positions even more important in my opinion because as you can see in your second example the preview covers almost all of the advertisers down the right hand side. I can see CTRS jumping for the top 3 and falling through the floor for the rest of the guys.

It also back up my theory that Google are trying to make the difference between the PPC ads and the organic listings so minimal that no-one can really tell the difference.Feb 17, 2011 11:38 am
